Ted 2 (15.)

Directed by Seth MacFarlane

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Seth MacFarlane, Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Barth, Giovanni Ribisi and Morgan Freeman. 115 mins

Laurence Olivier was said to possess a chameleon like quality that allowed him to tune into the persona of the people he was around and be whatever person they wanted him to be. I think Mark (nee Marky) Wahlberg peossesses a variation of that gift, a leech like ability to atune himself to the qualities of the people and project he is working with/ on and lift or lower his abilities accordingly. At times, his movie career can appear to be some kind of hideous extended prank. A dog standing on its hind legs and dressed in a costume wouldn't look as demeaning or as lost as Wahlberg did in Planet of the Apes or Transformers. Yet cast him opposite Julianne Moore or Will Ferrell and he can bounce back anything they throw at him.

In Ted 2 he is again cast opposite a talking teddy bear voiced by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and he gives another easy and assured comic performance, perfectly fulfilling his end of a double act that are this millenium's Cheech and Chong. Just as in the first, this tale of fully grown infantile man whose best friend is a talking teddy bear is crude, offensive, weed obssessed and packed with Lolisms.

There is a media hit out on Seth Macfarlane at the moment: critics and tweetators are combining to drag down anything he produces. His inspired comedy western A Million Ways To Die In The West got the most fearful critical hammering and this sequel to his monster 2012 hit is getting the same treatment. But, if you liked Ted, this is more of what you like, It doesn't have the novelty, obviously, is probably marginally less funny but still has the density of laughter to get it through.
